Stained Glass Windows
Stained glass windows fulfil at least three functions within the building fabric of a church. As elements of the external building fabric, they must withstand the weather; as remarkable works of art, they enrich the iconic and aesthetic qualities of a church interior, and they are also important as a source of spiritual inspiration and formation.
Two windows in Zion Parish Church are by A.E. Child from An Túr Gloine, with the others by the London firm Heaton, Butler and Bayne.
The website, www.gloine.ie, contains factual information and photographs of every stained-glass window throughout the Church of Ireland. The research, which was carried out by Dr David Lawrence, began in 1991 and concluded in 2017.
Zion Church is included in this project. Information about, and photographs of, our windows can be found: HERE
New Stained Glass Booklet
A new booklet called ‘Glorious and Transcendent: The Stained Glass Windows of Zion Parish Church’ is now available for sale. Written by the Rector, it contains detailed descriptions of all our windows along with a reflection on each for prayer and contemplation.
Costing just €5, it is available from the church and the parish office. (It may also be posted with an extra cost for postage.)
