The Environment

God spoke:

“Let us make human beings in our
image, make them reflecting our nature so they
can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds
in the air, the cattle, and, yes, Earth itself, and every
animal that moves on the face of Earth.”

Genesis 1:26

Faith Communities across the island are being called on to take actions to help save our bees. Pollinators, especially bees, make up an important part of Ireland’s biodiversity. Unfortunately, Irish pollinators are in decline, with one third of our 99 bee species threatened with extinction.

Without pollinators it would be impossible for farmers or gardeners to affordably produce many of the fruits and vegetables we need for a healthy diet. Pollinators are also vital for a healthy environment and landscape.

As religious people, our faith should encourage us to get to know the natural world more thoroughly, understand what is threatening biodiversity more fully, and do all we can to create a friendly world for every creature.

Our Parish community is part of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and are making changes in the ways we maintain our properties, because we believe this will have huge impacts for bee conservation and biodiversity in Ireland.
